Split $10.00 among three people.
Alex pays a $10.00 shared expense. Alex, Bo, and Casey all share it equally. For this example, their saved participant order is Alex, Bo, then Casey, and this is the ledger’s only expense.
1. Save the expense and its participants.
Create a ledger in USD, add the three people, then enter the expense with Alex as the payer. Select all three as participants in this expense. Each ledger uses one currency; OweDone does not convert currencies.
2. Keep the extra cent accounted for.
1,000 cents divided by three gives 333 cents each and one cent left over. OweDone assigns that cent to the first person in the saved participant order: Alex in this example. The order determines the remainder, not who paid.

A positive balance is money to receive; a negative balance is money to pay. Alex paid $10.00 and owes a $3.34 share, leaving $6.66 to receive. The saved shares add up to the original expense exactly.
3. Read and share the settlement plan.
- Bo pays Alex $3.33.
- Casey pays Alex $3.33.
OweDone shows these transfers as a plan. It does not connect to a bank, send money, or confirm that a payment happened. Use the ledger’s share action to open a text summary in the iOS share sheet, then choose the app and recipient yourself.
Sharing sends a summary, not a live shared ledger. Changes remain on your iPhone, so share an updated summary when the plan changes.
Will changing only an expense title change the split?
When the amount and participants stay the same, OweDone keeps the saved shares. You can rename “Lunch” to “Saturday lunch” without recalculating each person’s share.
When plans change
You can edit expenses and restore deleted expenses or ledgers from Recently Deleted. OweDone does not erase those items automatically. Removing the app removes its local app data, subject to your device backup settings.
